Making A Difference... Or So I Hope

Written February 6, 2011.

I truly don't want my life to go to waste, but sometimes I fear that it will. But I don't sit around and wait to make a difference; I go out and do things that I hope are helping somebody.
Currently, I spend around eight or more hours a week volunteering at local organizations and businesses. Two relate to either preparing or serving food for those in need, another is at a nonprofit thrift store that helps the Turning Points Network, and the last is helping at the financial office at the Student Conservation Association. Soon, I hope to start spending a couple of hours weekly at the humane society. I donate my time because I feel really good after I help others.
When elections come around, I like to participate in the campaigns by holding signs for my candidate(s) to show my support.
My step-aunt survived breast cancer, and we are so lucky she did. Cancer is a nasty disease, and I want to do everything I can to help find a cure. Since I don't have extra money to donate (I wish I did!), I have found another way I can pitch in to finding a cure: The Three-Day Walk For A Cure. In order to participate in the walk, one must raise two thousand some odd dollars. I am determined to get this money, because it will go to a very good cause that I believe in. However, I'll need to start exercising beforehand because I am in no shape to walk sixty miles within three days.
If I find something that I believe in, I want to help the cause as much as I can. Some things are harder to help than others, but that hasn't stopped me. I hope that all these little contributions of mine add up to something that truly makes a positive difference in this world.
